If you are a baseball fan, then you, like me, are in mourning right now. Stan "The Man" Musial died today at the age of 92. One of the absolute best to ever play the game. And without steroids! More importantly, in addition to being one of the best players, he was a superb human being. He gave his heart and soul to the St. Louis Cardinals baseball club and their fans. I can't imagine how opening day will feel in Busch Stadium without Stan getting paraded around during the pre-game festivities in his golf cart. My heart hurts thinking about it.
The world has lost a true gem in Stan. I ask you to please raise a toast to this man. Even if you don't like baseball. He deserves it. I'm already halfway drunk, so I've done my part.
STAN MUSIAL CAREER STATISTICS
Hits 3630 (1815 in STL, 1815 on road)
Batting Average .331
Home Runs 475
That's quite a career, folks. Here's a recap of it from ESPN.
May you rest in peace, Stan. You will be missed. Especially by one gal in the Midwest who is currently teary-eyed, drinking wine and wearing her red t-shirt that says perfectly simply, "The Man". She will miss you greatly. You were a peach.
